Governor Andrei Chibis held a working meeting with a delegation from the Republic of Belarus

7 May 2026

Governor Andrei Chibis held a working meeting with Grigory Glazko, First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus. The head of the region emphasized that the regional government is committed to systematic, long-term collaboration with Belarusian partners.

"We have real growth opportunities and mutual interest. This applies not only to traditional areas—industry, construction, and public transport upgrades—but also to joint projects in logistics, infrastructure, the development of the Northern Sea Route, and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor—a priority project for Russia, the objectives for which were set by President Vladimir Putin. In March, a delegation from the Murmansk Region paid a working visit to Minsk. We had a very substantive and productive discussion with President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the government, and the Ministry of Transport. We identified specific areas in which we can move forward today. And during your return visit, we thoroughly addressed these issues. We will now discuss the details and nuances," said Andrei Chibis, welcoming his Belarusian colleagues.

First Deputy Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus Grigory Glazko thanked the Governor for the warm welcome: "I really liked the region and Murmansk. The progress of work in the city, major renovations, and new spaces are evident. We visited many interesting locations. We also discussed and saw the railway and port infrastructure, ports, including Lavna, the bulk terminal, and convenient logistics."

Grigory Glazko invited colleagues from the Murmansk city administration and the regional Ministry of Transport to visit the Republic of Belarus to learn about approaches to the maintenance and operation of public roads.

It is worth noting that in March of this year, a delegation from the Murmansk Region, led by Governor Andrei Chibis, made a working visit to Minsk.

The Republic of Belarus is one of the Murmansk Region's main foreign partners and its first partner among the CIS countries. Based on foreign trade results for 2025, Belarus was among the top ten trading partners of the Murmansk Region. Trade turnover in 2025 reached its highest level in the past five years. The region supplies seafood and fish to Belarus, as well as fertilizer raw materials, and imports equipment and machinery. Other Belarusian products are also widely available in regional stores. Mining companies in the Murmansk region are purchasing Belarusian-made quarry equipment (51 vehicles in 2025), and a BelAZ truck repair service center opened in Apatity in 2024. Belarusian equipment is also being actively purchased as part of the regional passenger transport renewal program.

Furthermore, joint initiatives are being implemented in the fields of culture, sports, education, and science, including inter-museum projects, tours, and festivals. Direct flights have been established between the sister cities of Murmansk and Minsk, and the flow of Belarusian tourists is also growing.
