At the initiative of the Norwegian side, a meeting was held at the Regional Control Center between Svetlana Panfilova, Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Tore Nærlan, head of the Norwegian NGO "Bike for Peace."
During the meeting, the Russian side noted that the Murmansk Region has successfully collaborated with Norwegian provinces for many years, implementing joint projects in a wide range of areas. The Norwegian side initiated the severance of relations, which occurred in 2022. The region remains open and ready for cooperation, but solely on the principles of mutual respect and benefit, provided there is an appropriate approach from the foreign side.
Tore Nærlan emphasized that he and the members of his organization do not share the policy of sanctions and restrictions and advocate for the resumption of a constructive dialogue with the Russian side, including through the implementation of joint projects in culture and sports. Specifically, a bike ride involving amateur and professional cyclists from the Murmansk Region and Norway in the region.
In addition, representatives of the Bicycle Movement for Peace organization condemned acts of vandalism against monuments erected in Norway to commemorate the heroic deeds of Soviet liberators during World War II.
