A delegation from the Murmansk Region, led by Governor Andrei Chibis, is working in the Republic of Belarus. The regional governor held a number of important meetings aimed at strengthening interregional cooperation. The visit's busy agenda includes economic cooperation, humanitarian and patriotic events.
One of the first was a meeting with Boris Gryzlov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Belarus. The participants discussed the current state and prospects for developing trade and economic ties between the Murmansk Region and Belarus. Boris Gryzlov praised the potential of the Kola Peninsula, noting its strategic importance for the Union State.
"The Murmansk Region is a strategically important region of Russia with significant achievements in the mining and fisheries industries. The region supplies Belarus with fish and seafood, which are highly valued in the republic. And, of course, the most important are the apatites and phosphorites that you mine and supply for the production of large volumes of fertilizers in Belarus," Gryzlov noted.
The working program also included a meeting with renowned Belarusian public figure and motivational speaker Alexei Talai. A four-time world and five-time European record holder in swimming and a member of the Belarusian Paralympic team, he has been inspiring people around the world for many years. Andrei Chibis and Alexei Talai discussed prospects for a visit to the Murmansk Region, focusing on supporting participants in the special military operation. Alexei Talai, who conducts master classes and motivational meetings for wounded soldiers, expressed his willingness to share his experience with residents of the Kola Arctic.
Governor Andrei Chibis discussed prospects for housing construction and transportation with Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Anatoly Sivak. It is worth noting that more than 40% of the transport used in industry and passenger transportation in the Murmansk Region is Belarusian-made. Elevators in residential buildings in the region are also being replaced with Belarusian-made ones.
The meeting with Vladimir Kukharev, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, focused on cooperation between the capitals of the Republic and the region: Minsk and Murmansk have been sister cities for many years. They enjoy close cultural, scientific, and educational ties.
The governor also took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Victory Monument in Minsk. The head of the region honored the memory of the soldiers who fell during the Great Patriotic War.
"Thank you to my colleagues for the warm welcome. We've discussed a great many issues over the past few days. The agenda was extremely detailed and useful. Importantly, we confirmed that our previous visit yielded results; the entire list of tasks was effectively completed, and momentum is excellent. Trade turnover has increased, and communication is active in all areas, and we continue to work together. And there are very clear prospects for further joint work, including those we discussed with the Head of the Republic today," the governor noted following a series of meetings.
The regional governor's working visit to Minsk continues. Plans include visits to scientific and transport facilities.
