25 November 2024

Murmansk Region Governor Andrey Chibis arrived in the Republic of Belarus on a two-day visit. During the trip to Minsk, a number of important events and meetings were held aimed at strengthening bilateral ties in the economic, educational and cultural spheres.

The first point of the program was a visit to the Great Stone Industrial Park. This is a new international platform for doing business, where companies are provided with access to ready-made production, engineering and transport, customs and social and administrative infrastructure with significant tax preferences.

The Governor got acquainted with promising projects in the field of high-tech production, discussed with Belarusian colleagues the possibilities of expanding cooperation in this area, noting that two preferential regimes have been in effect in the Murmansk Region since 2020: the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and the Priority Development Area "Capital of the Arctic", which were launched with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During his working visit, Andrey Chibis also visited the National Children"s Technopark, where over 1,500 students are trained annually in the following areas: Aerospace Technologies, Architecture and Design, Biotechnology, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Green Chemistry, etc. The head of the region emphasized that it is necessary to develop bilateral cooperation in this area and exchange experiences. He said that the children"s technopark "Kvantorium-51" is also successfully operating in the Murmansk Region, which, according to the results of 2023, was among the top five "Kvantoriums" in Russia.

"An excellent technology park. On the one hand, you give children the opportunity not just to learn something, but to offer something new, to create something. On the other hand, this is absolutely effective for the country, since you get a solution to this or that issue. And the children are given the appropriate recommendation for entering the university. This is a good practice. We will definitely work on this issue with colleagues in order to implement such a practice here," the governor emphasized after the excursion to the children"s technology park.

As part of the trip, Andrei Chibis and First Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Nadezhda Lazarevich laid flowers at the Victory Monument in Minsk, paying tribute to the soldiers of the Soviet Army who died during the Great Patriotic War, and to all who defended freedom and independence.

The head of the region discussed prospects for further cooperation between the Murmansk region and the Republic of Belarus in the areas of industry, logistics, healthcare, education, transport and cultural exchange at a working meeting with the Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in the Republic Vladimir Vanke.

"For us, Belarus is a very important and reliable partner. All decisions that we agree on are actively implemented. For example, public transport made in Belarus is running on the roads of the Murmansk Region – more than 200 units. 300 BELAZ trucks and quarry dump trucks are in operation. A new service center was recently opened. And next year, a huge amount of equipment will also be supplied to our mining companies. Of course, one of the strategic projects for us is the construction of a sea terminal for cargo handling on the western shore of the Kola Bay. We have already started the practical implementation of this work – in terms of providing land plots and structuring projects. And now this work is growing very dynamically," the governor said.

The federal center"s attention has been drawn to the construction of the terminal. As was stated at the meeting, this large-scale project could become an example of creating infrastructure for year-round transshipment of fertilizers and oil products, and also contribute to strengthening relations between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus.

Vladimir Vanke, Minister-Counselor of the Russian Embassy in the Republic of Belarus, thanked the head of the Murmansk Region Andrei Chibis for the visit, noting that effective cooperation between the countries continues and meets mutual interests.
