As part of the working visit of the Murmansk Region delegation to the Republic of Belarus, a meeting was held between Governor Andrey Chibis and Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee Vladimir Kukharev. The parties discussed the results of their joint work and plans for the future.
Andrey Chibis emphasized that the relations between the parties are steadily developing and strengthening, and previous agreements are being implemented in full.
"Belarus is a very important partner for us. All the decisions we agreed on last time are being implemented. For example, there are more than 200 units of public transport made in Belarus on the streets of Murmansk, this is what we agreed on during the last visit. And no complaints. There are 300 BELAZ trucks in our companies, quarry dump trucks. Just recently, we opened a new BELAZ technical service center in Apatity, and before that, a laboratory where specialists are trained at a branch of our Murmansk Arctic University. Major deliveries of equipment for our mining companies are planned for next year. One of the key joint projects for us is the construction of a large port for Belarusian cargo on the western shore of the Kola Bay. The volume of transshipment through the port of Murmansk and delivery of goods to consumers is growing. It is important that we discuss this in detail together, and at the level of the leadership of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Grigoryevich Lukashenko. And we have made serious progress, systematic work is currently underway: the implementation of the Murmansk transport hub is in the active stage, the first stage is complete, 50 km of railway and bridge crossings have been built at a Stakhanovite pace. Today, we have selected a land plot with our Belarusian partners and a legal entity has already been created – a resident of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, and we have started implementation. The project is being packaged, intensive work is underway. There are prospects for cooperation in various areas, including the fishing industry, aquaculture. All this implies serious economic growth,” Andrey Chibis listed.
The head of the Murmansk region noted that a large delegation of representatives from various areas of industry in the Kola Arctic is working in Minsk; a visit to a number of sites is planned for today and tomorrow.
"I am sure that joint projects will be even closer, as there is mutual interest in this. Including the development of tourism, of course, the issue of transport support is important here – this is a subject for discussion. So that they fly more often, the connection is more active. In addition, we have an exchange of cultural delegations, this is an important component of cooperation. Exchange among schoolchildren, educational projects, including within the framework of technology parks. And immersion in the practical production activities of our regions is an important big prospect. We need to strengthen friendship, cooperation, so that future generations can maintain these strong relations. This will make our countries stronger. The main thing is that we have common values and we are together," Andrey Chibis emphasized and thanked Vladimir Kukharev for the invitation.
Vladimir Kukharev noted that Belarus and the Murmansk region are connected by many areas of cooperation, and the prospects are increasing.
"We can state that last year and this year the development of our trade and economic relations is at a high level, we see many promising areas, in which I think we will work together. And holding such meetings between business representatives is very useful. Our task is to give impetus to establishing relationships, to strengthen cooperation between representatives of our business, then the business itself will find common ground, new vectors, and work them out. The visit to our enterprises planned for these days is also useful. We have mutually beneficial areas, I think that our enterprises can work out and create joint ventures. Passenger equipment, agricultural, logging, and many others. Joint work with young people, implementation of joint initiatives and projects. Sports – including tournaments and the training process. Work along the line of sister cities. And also cooperation in the field of healthcare, pharmacology and medical equipment – we have a number of enterprises. And we know that there are many interesting and beautiful places in the Murmansk region that are attractive to tourists. Of course, Minsk is also interesting from this point of view for northerners; such programs are promising,” Vladimir Kukharev emphasized.
