The Chairman of the Murmansk branch of the Union of Writers of Russia Ilya Vinogradov took part in the International Literary Festival in the Indian state of Kerala.
The delegation of Russian writers, which also included poet and teacher from Chelyabinsk Nina Yagodintseva and the head of the Lipetsk branch of the Writers" Union Alexander Ponomarev, spoke to the Indian audience. They discussed today"s literary life and the connections between our cultures, presented books by modern Russian authors, including an anthology of poetry about Murmansk and an almanac of the Murmansk festival "Captain Gray", and literary magazines. The delegates discussed prospects for cooperation with local writers and teachers, in particular, joint translations, talked to journalists, and read poems in Russian.
The festival is held annually in the famous city of Kozhikode. It is organized by the largest newspaper of Kerala, Malayala Manorama, with a circulation of two million and almost 10 million readers. The festival included dozens of events, hundreds of speakers from all over India and other countries participated, thousands of books were presented, and thousands of guests became spectators and listeners.
As part of the project, Russian writers also spoke at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi, held a meeting with colleagues in Calcutta, and several more events are planned. The project was launched in 2022, and since then, Russian writers have already visited India 4 times, hundreds of books by Russian authors have been donated to universities, schools, and other organizations, dozens of meetings have been held, a translation of a book by a contemporary author from Calcutta has begun, publication of which is scheduled for this year, and preparations are underway for other translation projects.
