On October 30–31, the Murmansk Marine Biological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (MMBI RAS) in Murmansk will host the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Security of the Arctic Frontiers: Ecology, History, Images of the Future". The Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society is the operator of the event. Co-organizers of the conference: MMBI RAS, the Ministry of Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region.
The first conference was held in October 2020 in Murmansk and aroused great interest among Russian and foreign participants. The second conference was held in 2021 at the Federal Research Center KSC RAS in Apatity, the third conference was held in 2022 at the Moscow State Technical University, and the fourth conference was held at the Polar Geophysical Institute in Murmansk. Speakers from Russia, China, Norway, Finland, the USA, India, including representatives of the Moscow Marine Biological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow State University, the Polar Research Institute of China, the Norwegian Pomor Academy, the Partisan Museum in Kiberg, the Norwegian research company Akvaplan Niva, the Arctic University of Norway, a number of environmental organizations, etc.
were invited to participate in the conference. Representatives of scientific, educational, public, commercial organizations, cultural and art institutions from Russia, Norway, China and other Arctic countries were invited to participate in the conference. The
fifth anniversary conference is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the defeat of the Nazi troops in the Arctic and the liberation of the territory of Northern Norway by Soviet troops.
Speakers include representatives of the Murmansk Regional Branch of the Russian Geographical Society, MMBI RAS, KSC RAS, Northern Fleet, VNIIOkeangeologiya, Rosatomflot, Polar Research Institute of China, etc.
The event will be held in a mixed in-person and remote format with simultaneous broadcast and posting of the recording on public video hosting sites YouTube and RuTube. The online broadcast of the event will be carried out with simultaneous translation into Russian and English.
