On the eve of Victory Day, a roll call of the hero cities of Russia and the Republic of Belarus took place. Deputy head of the Murmansk city administration Lyudmila Levchenko took part in the videoconference.
Representatives of 8 cities got in touch: Murmansk, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Brest Fortress, Kerch, Minsk, Tula, Smolensk.
The participants congratulated each other on the upcoming holiday, talked about cooperation between hero cities and the development of patriotic education, and also presented videos about their cities.
On May 8, 1965, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the highest honorary title “Hero City” was established by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council. It was awarded to Leningrad, Moscow, Kyiv, Volgograd (Stalingrad), Sevastopol, Odessa, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Minsk, Tula, Murmansk, Smolensk and the Brest Fortress.
