Governor Andrei Chibis chaired a meeting of the Murmansk Region Maritime Council.
Opening the meeting, the regional governor emphasized the strategic role of the Maritime Council, which, working within the Russian Maritime Board under the leadership of Presidential Aide Nikolai Patrushev, consolidates the efforts of the state and business to develop maritime activities in the Kola Arctic. It was noted that, with the support of Russian President Vladimir Putin, large-scale projects are being implemented to transform the Murmansk port into a leading multimodal transport hub in the Arctic.
"The work of the Maritime Council is particularly relevant today. Together, we are addressing emerging issues and formulating a strategy for the coming years to develop maritime activities in our region," said Andrei Chibis.
The governor emphasized that the development of Murmansk as a deep-water ice-free port, as well as the port of Kandalaksha, are strategic priorities for the region.
Andrey Chibis noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly set goals for the development of the Northern Sea Route at major events, including the International Arctic and Eastern Economic Forums.
He also stated that, thanks to the President's support, the Lavna port has opened, and the railway's capacity will be expanded.
The governor thanked all partners for their assistance and support in replacing traditional cargo with new, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective options.
"Our shared goal is to overcome all challenges in order to, on the one hand, ensure safety, and on the other, guarantee the prompt entry of vessels and resolve a range of related issues. We will have to make the necessary decisions on each of these," the governor concluded.
During the meeting, members of the Maritime Council discussed specific mechanisms for implementing vessel calls at the Murmansk seaport, coordinating decisions on coastal zone and water area development, organizing small vessel traffic, and ensuring the high-quality operation of related processes supporting the port's operations.
