Soyuzmultfilm Studios has released a series of animated videos dedicated to the culture, everyday life, and traditions of the indigenous peoples of the North. A unique feature of the project is that it features one of the most famous characters in Russian animation, the polar bear Umka, as its guide into the world of northern traditions. The first episodes of the miniseries have already been published on the studio"s official social media pages.

"While creating the animated series "Umka," our team became acquainted with the rich traditions, culture, and nature of the Far North—that"s when the idea for this separate project emerged," said Yulia Osetinskaya, General Producer of Soyuzmultfilm. "We strive not only to entertain viewers but also to broaden their horizons. The stories of the peoples of the North are certainly worthy of attention: they are profound, vibrant, and unique. And Umka"s participation makes the project more relatable and accessible to both children and adults."

The polar bear will tell viewers about the lives and customs of the Khanty, Nanai, Chukchi, Eskimos, Nenets, Mansi, and Evenki. Viewers will learn how to celebrate the New Year several times, what an igloo and a yaranga are, why reindeer are the northerners" best helpers, and much more.
Each episode will combine fairy tales and documentary elements, revealing the richness of northern crafts, folklore, traditional trades, and the interaction of humans with Arctic nature.
You can follow updates and watch new episodes on Soyuzmultfilm"s official social media channels.
