2 December 2025

Vibrant festivals, atmospheric locations, and New Year"s performances: today, at a working meeting, Vice Governor Alexandra Kondaurova presented the key events of the winter season in the Murmansk Region.

As Alexandra Kondaurova noted, the development of event tourism is an important focus of the governor"s "Live in the North!" plan. In the coming months, more than 1,000 tourism, cultural, and sports events will be held for northerners and visitors to the region. The main centers of attraction will be Murmansk, Teriberka, Kirovsk, and Apatity. Monchegorsk, Olenegorsk, and Kovdor have also prepared a vibrant lineup of events.

Alexandra Kondaurova elaborated on the festive activities. According to the Vice Governor, this year, the center of Murmansk will be transformed into a New Year"s town with three main locations.

For example, on Vorovskogo Street, where the "Ryady" space is permanently open, a themed fair, "Warm in the North," will open on December 19th. It will be open throughout the New Year holidays and will offer its guests holiday souvenirs, an entertainment program with entertainers, a Christmas tree market, themed photo zones, an ice maze trap, a children"s slide, and an ice bar with Arctic drinks. From the fair"s post office, you can send postcards not only within Russia but also around the world.

A children"s carousel will be operating near the main Christmas tree on the square near the Meridian Congress Hotel, and in Father Frost"s Ice House, little ones can sit on an ice throne and make a wish. The festive crafts house will host master classes for children and adults.

A skating rink will be open in the square on the renovated Leningradskaya Street, along with booths selling hot drinks and baked goods, and skate rentals will be available. Admission with your own skates is free.

On January 9, the fifth, anniversary Santa Claus Train will arrive in the Arctic capital, where children will enjoy an animated and entertaining program featuring beloved fairytale characters. Tickets go on sale 30 days before the train"s arrival.

During the holidays, themed sessions will be held at the Northern Lights Recreation Park, and fairytale ice shows will be held at the Ice Sports Palace. And on January 11, the traditional first sunrise of the new year will be celebrated at Solnechnaya Gorka Hill.

In Monchegorsk, the "Love is Imandra" festival will be held at the city stadium on December 14. Participants will enjoy sporting activities, including a family skating festival, broom hockey, archery, an obstacle course, and an entertainment program for all ages.

Kirovsk and Apatity will host numerous spectacular events this winter. The "Siyanie" art skating rink will open at the Izovela art sanatorium on December 14th and will be open throughout the winter season. In March, the rink will traditionally welcome spring with the "Art Maslenitsa" festival. January will see the much-loved "Mad Saw" show competition, where sculptors use chainsaws to create 1.5-meter-tall ice sculptures in just a few minutes before the eyes of spectators.

Starting in late December, Kirovsk will welcome some of its most popular tourist attractions: the unique "Snow Village" excursion and tourist center, covering over 2,500 square meters, and the "Mysterious Forest" art park, featuring atmospheric locations. According to Alexandra Kondaurova, this season, the man-made snow village will offer guests 20 snow halls with various themes and ice sculptures, while the "Mysterious Forest" will once again captivate with themed routes, quests, and photo zones.

In January, the Teriberka Community Center will host "Pomor Evenings" on Saturdays, featuring performances by the Teriberka Pomor Choir, along with tours of the "Heritage of Pomorye" exhibition and workshops.

Kovdor invites everyone to celebrate the Hyperborean New Year from December 20th to 22nd. This holiday has long been a hallmark of the town. Traditionally, there will be a theatrical performance, competitions for children and adults, and a spectacular fire show.

The Winter Sami Games will be held in Yonskoye, traditionally timed to coincide with International Sami Day and held in February. In addition to sports activities, a cultural and entertainment program is planned, including a souvenir fair and a food court with baked goods and Arctic beverages.

Olenegorsk will host the traditional "Morozko" fairytale festival from January 16-18, with special guests Ded Moroz from Veliky Ustyug and Snegurochka from Kostroma.

"We live where others dream of vacationing. I am confident that winter season events will be in great demand among both residents of our region and visitors to the Murmansk region," emphasized Alexandra Kondaurova.

Detailed information about key winter season events in the Murmansk region will be published on the official tourism portal Murmansk.travel, as well as on the "Nash Sever" portal.
