Acting Head of Murmansk Ivan Nikolaevich Lebedev and Chairman of the Murmansk City Administration Committee for Economic Development and Tourism and Investment Commissioner Andrey Sergeevich Varich attended a meeting of the Standing Committee on Interparliamentary Cooperation of the Parliamentary Association of Northwest Russia. One of the agenda items was the development of Murmansk"s sister city relations.
Murmansk currently has eight sister cities in seven countries. The closest cooperation is currently with Minsk (Belarus), Harbin (China), and Alanya (Turkey).
We are developing inter-municipal ties not only with foreign cities but also with municipalities within our country. We have already signed a memorandum of intent to establish sister city relations with the hero city of Novorossiysk. We plan to conclude a sister city agreement with the hero city of Smolensk.
The benefits of sister city ties are undeniable. In addition to boosting economic interaction, attracting business, and developing tourism, they also enhance the international prestige of the Hero City of Murmansk and the Murmansk Region as a whole, strengthening mutual understanding and trust. It is precisely within sister city communities that warm human relationships are established.
