Today, the first online blitz chess tournament was held between the cities of Murmansk and Lianyungang (People"s Republic of China).
In the space of "Sopki. Youth Center for Civil Initiatives" (39 Sof"i Perovskoy St.), 10 students of the Murmansk Youth Sports School No. 17 aged 10 to 15 competed with young chess players from the Chinese city of Lianyungang.
The tournament was held with the support of the regional public organization "Chess Federation of the Murmansk Region".
– Murmansk continues to expand cooperation with foreign colleagues. In November last year, we signed a protocol of intent to establish sister city relations with the city of Lianyungang with the mayor of the People"s Government of the city, Mr. Xing Zhengjun. Over the past two years, we have been actively discussing with our Chinese colleagues issues of implementing joint projects, one of which was today"s chess match. – In the future, we plan to hold such competitions monthly.
Deputy Head of the Foreign Affairs Office Liu Pengda took part in the award ceremony via video link. The winners and prize winners were awarded medals and cups from the Murmansk City Administration. Each participant received a diploma from the Mayor of Murmansk.
Maxim Tikhonov took first place in terms of the total points scored, Artem Anisimov took second place, and Yang Zonghan took third place.
The Murmansk team won the overall standings with 131 points against the Lianyungang team"s 100 points.
