On October 25, 2019, within the framework of twinning relations, the delegation from Murmansk under the leadership of the head of Murmansk municipal unit Andrey Sysoev paid a visit to Kirkenes (Kingdom of Norway), where celebrations were held to mark the 75th anniversary of the liberation of Eastern Finnmark from the Nazi invaders by Soviet soldiers.
On the occasion of the celebration, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and King of Norway Harald V arrived in Kirkenes with official visit.
The solemn ceremony with official performances was held on the central square to the accompaniment of the Northern Fleet Choir (Severomorsk) and the Norwegian Ground Forces Orchestra.
The delegation from Murmansk together with the top officials laid flowers at the Monument to the Soviet Soldier-Liberator and at the Monument to the Mothers of the War.
The celebration ended with a football match between the teams of the Murmansk region and Finnmark.
In the modern world, when we witness how some countries try to falsify and rewrite the history of World War II, such a large-scale celebration of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of East Finnmark is a significant international event, proving respectful and good-neighborly relations between our countries.
